I recently had lunch with Louis. What a treat. A light morsel – fish with a glass of Pouilly Fumé followed by cheese and coffee of course.
This is the man who guided me into orthopaedic surgery and gave me the impetus to continually strive for clinical excellence. I owe my career to him as do many orthopaedic surgeons across the globe.
He is a ‘guru’ of orthopaedics. The senior author of Apley’s System of Orthopaedics and Fractures, the book we all referred to during the orthopaedics block in undergraduate medicine, in post graduate orthopaedic training and the book I still dip into on a regular basis.
The lunch was all about …guess – orthopaedic surgery! Wonderful!!
Louis Solomon is the Emeritus Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Bristol.
