The Hellenic Association of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (HAOST) invited me to be a participant of the International Faculty in Larissa in November 2006 where I presented on Resurfacing Hip Replacements and the Changes in Hip Replacement Prostheses.
The meeting was well organized and portrayed the significant strides in orthopaedic surgery in Greece, which was impressive, to say the least!
I recently attended a Meeting in Orlando, Florida, USA in April 2007, where I was a member of the Faculty of the ‘Advances in Hip and Knee Arthroplasty’ meeting. This outstanding meeting was organized by Dr John Cuckler. The programme addressed prosthetic design principles, materials and alternative bearings. Pertinent surgical issues pertaining to uni-compartment knee and patello-femoral arthroplasties, as well as primary and revision total hip and knee arthroplasties were reviewed. The results of hip and knee surgery and the management principles of difficult surgical cases were also discussed. The course was accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education. As with most American meetings the programme was tightly structured to allow for the maximum transfer of information.
I was the moderator for the session on ‘The Debate over Materials in Total Hip Replacement’ and presented on Ceramic Metal Bearing Surfaces and on Resurfacing Hip Replacements.
Clockwise above from the left with me are Professor Ian Clarke, Dr Tom Donaldson and and Dr Edward McPherson.
